Taking inspiration form the local fishermen’s shacks and wharf facilities that are placed around the coast of Maine, USA, this eclectic old house, with large windows and a suspended extension, is modern and tranquil. The project was planned and designed by Elliot + Elliot Architecture and inspires a creative mind with its beautiful landscaping, home construction and modern interior. With a tall pointed roof and small stoned walls, the house is rather cute in appearance and looks charming delicately suspended over the water. The interior is very inviting and warm and mixes wooden panelling with modern furniture and warm and soft colourings. Photos courtesy Tome Crane Photography.

Restoration of an American Classic: Old American house

This very elegant and beautifully styled house is surrounded by lush green vegetation, colourful flowers and tall trees and is a restoration completed on the shores of Lake Minnetonka, in the Gulf of Robinson, Minneapolis, USA. Transformed by designers and artists at American company Murphy and Company Design, this very classic American home has bright white cornicing and framing as well as a large circular window in the very centre of the house. The textured stone exterior and slatted roof help to keep the classical feel alive, while the interior tells a similar picture. Inside, the openness of the space is evident by the high ceilings made from beautiful rich wood and the classical feel is carried forward through the furnishings. Photos by Phillip Mueller.

With three identically constructed houses, it is clear to see from the pictures which one has been given a new lease of life. On the left we have a very clean and modern looking house with traditional Brazilian features, followed by two identically structured houses that look worn down and rustic. The design team at Tiago do Vale Architects decided to renovate this historic building and make it into something that is suitable for today’s lifestyle. The owner of the house wanted to have space to live and work, which has been fulfilled incredibly well by the team. Inside, the interior is an incredible sight, with an abundance of white enveloping you the space is open and inviting as well as modern and contemporary.

Built on an existing U-shaped foundation, this new residence has a staggering five volumes that helps to segregate the different rooms, and provide privacy for the residents. Designers MacCracken Architects in 2010, this wooden exterior home is surrounded by a beautiful, dusky hillside with green shrubbery and small plantation. The house also has a lovely pool and raised, concrete patio that enables the owners to have great summer pool parties! Inside, the main hallway has some wonderful frosted windows built into the ceiling, that allow light to penetrate in and bounce of the neutral colours in the room. As you delve deeper into the house, the main living room has a beautiful slatted ceiling with a traditional and rustic interior style.

Working with a very open and indulgent space, the designers of the company Geometrix Design have developed a bold modern apartment in the city of Moscow with lots of interesting features. In this apartment you can see some very unique and interesting design choices from the creators, such as the very futuristic appearance that seems to ooze out of every room. The living room makes the most of the space by creating a angular and gloss effect TV workstation that allows for everything to be hidden away if necessary. The arm chairs are also very reminiscent of the sci-fi theme with the focus being clearly linked to shows such as Star Trek! The bedroom also has some very unusual features such as the patterned wall and back-lit images.

This classical American home created by Witt Construction is a true gem hidden amongst a quiet street on the coast of Maine, USA. The house itself is fairly large and has been constructed using slate and wood with a cream coloured overcoat. The beautifully shaped windows in this house are a real feature and help to add to the classical feel. Inside this house you are greeted by an immaculately decorated interior with a feeling of space and tranquillity. One of the real highlights of this house is the converted seating area in the bay window on the stairs, what a wonderful place to ponder your thoughts over a hot cup of tea! The rooms are functional and each of them has their own satisfying colour schemes that match the styling of the house wonderfully.

This cute, cosy little home is located amongst beautifully tall trees in a wooden area near Denver, USA and oozes rusticism and natural traditionalism. The exterior has been created using large wooden logs and is built up on rocks and boulders, adding a wonderful natural feel to the whole house. Every detail has been perfectly executed, from the structure of the exterior to the steel handles on the doors. When you enter into the house, you are greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere that makes you feel calm and at ease. The walls utilise the wooden frame of the house, while the natural beams and flooring help to keep the traditional styling alive. Every piece of furniture has been made using natural materials, such as the wooden dining set and the stone fire surround. The house was implemented by Teton Heritage Builders.

From the outside this house looks almost like a very upmarket and modern shed, that has tremendous connections with the surrounding scenery. Looking very natural and rustic, this beautiful and welcoming wooden villa is located in Sweden and includes a home office, several bedrooms and an open plan living room with kitchen and dining room. The main living space has had large windows installed in various places, capturing unique views whilst allowing a tremendous amount of light to flood in. One of the most attractive parts of this house is the dark pine house facades, which gives the house a touch of mystery and uniqueness. The elegant and minimalist interior of the house has various honey tones that add warmth to the space.
