Stacking Structures: Contemporary home has stacked volumes to create an interesting structure

This rather unusual and interestingly shaped house is located in a beautiful area of Reykjavik, Iceland, and was developed by Minarc. The structure of the house consists of stacked volumes to create both the ground and upper floors, and a elongated ground floor that juts out over the buildings foundation. This extension gives the structure and modern look and feel, while the geometric and almost angular shapes of the remainder of the house give it a more industrialised aura. The design elements have been carefully selected to maximize passive solar energy and cross ventilation, minimizing energy costs and making it a more eco-friendly building. The interior is simple, comfortable and clean and has an warming atmosphere.
