Front doors are the entrance to your home and the start of your own personal space, so treat it with respect and make it look wonderful! There are so many different shapes, styles, colours and sizes of front doors to choose from and so many ways to make the entrance of your home look inviting and stylish. Every home has a front door of some kind, whether it is made from solid wood, or metal panelling, each one has its own character and individual presence. You will often see modern homes making use of glass and metal materials in order to give the entrance to the house a stylish, yet minimalist look and the more traditionally styled home using solid wood doors to keep the theme going. With lots of homes having differently positioned front doors of endless sizes, it is no wonder that I can be difficult to choose the right one for your home.
Larger homes tend to have more space to play with, so the entrance space and front doors usually become larger. Front doors are a great way to make the most of the space and create a fabulous entrance and focal point for your home. Smaller homes usually have smaller doors, which actually can be a rather cute feature. Many cottages and chalets have small wooden doors, that look perfect in size and height for the house.Read more
If your home has a large amount of windows, you can create a contrast on the exterior of the house by choosing a door that is a solid panel of wood or metal to break up the open space. If you have smaller windows with more of the exterior walls showing, you could choose a door that is predominately glass to break up the space and let in more light. If your home is traditionally styled, you could either have a large, curved door or a wooden panelled door with a polished door knocker for effect. This will keep the traditional feel going and will be in-keeping with its current style.
One of the biggest decisions that needs to be made when choosing a front door is colour. Some houses in England have bright red front doors as they seem to fit in well with the Edwardian styling of some of their homes, yet houses in Spain and other European countries often choose more neutral colours to blend in with their surroundings. If you want to make a statement out of your front door then choose a bright and endearing colour, but if you want your front door to fit in with its current décor, then pick a colour from the exterior and use that as a guide.
Front doors make great focal points and also help to frame your home. Why not have a look through some of the images in this category to see what kind of doors are available!
